Elvis Costello and the Imposters PUMPED US UP!
The show-ending medley was AWESOME! All the songs were varied and excellent, fast, slow, and all points in between. I thought it was tremendous! I knew the show would be GREAT, but it was MUCH better than I'd even hoped for. Pup can pretty much do it all, and his veteran band is better than ever!
Pup even commented about how it seemed to fit the vibe of the show at that moment. He spontaneously played a request for "Human Hands" made by a young woman, who whispered it in his ear. That was very cool, and the band played the heck out of it. It was a GREAT request by her.
The Imposters were Steve Nieve (keyboards), Pete Thomas (drums), and Davey Farragher (bass), and Pup played four guitars during the show: Telecaster, Jaguar, Acoustic with a microphone, and straight acoustic during his 2-song solo set. Tight as tick all night long, they were, smiling as they ROCKED the Taft! They are a pretty incredible band, led impeccably by Pup.
Also, covers of Stones, Beatles, and The Who... all were GREAT! The short interludes with people coming up from the audience to select songs on the big wheel were all FUN, and Pup did a splendid job of handling the variety of folks, young and old, that were brought up. He's very smooth in all he does, plus it was nice to hear him speak to the audience as much as he did. It showed a personal side of him that often gets lost in the more traditional "straight on" type of shows.
All of us thoroughly enjoyed Pup & The Imposters on the Spinning Wheel tour, as there were two others that joined me at the show. If near you, GO SEE THIS SHOW!
